Ministry Areas
Evaluate a student’s strengths and need for improvement in vital “areas of pastoral ministry.” In the first question below, evaluate the student’s competency in each area (rate it a 1 for minimal, 2 for developing, 3 for acceptable, 4 for very good, or 5 for exceptional). For the second and third questions below, students share parts of a “portfolio” to show progress or readiness with experiences from related courses, coaching with mentors, equipping activities, and samples of work. As Paul mentors Timothy, “Put these things into practice, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress” (1 Tim. 4:15). As we clarify our call by God for where we fit in Christ’s body, Romans 12:3 instructs us to “be honest in your evaluation” (NLT) or “to think with sober judgment” (NRSV), which is part of the rationale for reflection and conversation about competency.
